Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of Korean beauty, or K-beauty, by now. This extremely popular and ultra-trendy beauty routine promises fresh, dewy, “post-facial” like skin using quite a few added steps to your basic skin care routine (double cleansing?). At the most basic level, K-beauty is skin and beauty products that have originated and are made in Korea. The products are created with the Korean beauty philosophy in mind, meaning the routine is designed to work long term. K-beauty also recognizes that everyone’s skin is different and unique so the products are super innovative and customizable and are usually made with ingredients inspired by nature (snail mucin anyone?). Think rubber face masks, beauty essences and oil cleansers!
This is a beauty trend that we’re sure is here to stay because of all the amazing benefits it has for your skin. Today we’re sharing some tips, tricks and benefits of this advanced Korean beauty regime and providing you with a basic, 10 step routine for glowing, healthy, hydrated skin!

Basic K-Beauty Routine
We’re breaking it down and giving you the most basic routine, based on combo/normal skin. Remember, this is a regimen that caters to you, so if you’re a sufferer of dry skin, grab some k-beauty products that are super moisturizing and packed with hydrating ingredients!
Step 1 – Makeup Removing with an Oil Based Cleanser
The first step in cleansing; removing your makeup or any debris on the face using an oil based cleanser. This is the foundation of your skin care routine, don’t skip it! Can help to remove excess sebum and SPF.
Step 2 – Second Cleanser
Recommended by the beauty obsessed and aestheticians everywhere, your second cleanser should be water based. This second cleanse thoroughly removes dirt, sweat and anything else your oil based cleanser might have missed.
Step 3 – Exfoliator
Look for a gentle exfoliator made for the face. This crucial step will help slough off dead skin cells to reveal a brighter complexion!
Step 4 – Toner
Your toner is adding hydration back into your skin and acts as a way to prep your skin for the following treatments. Toner’s help to repair your skin’s barrier and balance pH levels.
Step 5 – Essence
Touted as one of the most important steps of the routine, essences are lightweight and packed with ingredients that enhance your complexion. Look for products with rice extract or hyaluronic acid.
Step 6 – Treatments
Your treatments (serums, ampoules and boosters) help to nourish your skin. Formulated with ingredients like tea tree and vitamin C, this step perfects the skin and targets any areas of concern like acne, hyperpigmentation or dryness.
Step 7 – Sheet Mask
Look for a sheet mask aimed at what your skin needs. Trying to soothe redness? Grab a sheet mask with cucumber or green tea extract in it! Struggling with a nasty breakout? Pick up a mask with rosewater.
Step 8 – Eye Cream
Essential in almost everyone’s skin care routine, this step is important for reducing puffiness, dark circles and keeping fine lines and wrinkles under control.
Step 9 – Moisturizer
A moisturizer is crucial for sealing in moisture and plumping up your skin! Try one that’s formulated with green tea, snail mucin or bamboo for younger looking skin.
Step 10 – SPF
The most important step is the last! Always apply an SPF to your face, even if you’ll be inside the majority of the day. A good SPF shields the skin from damaging UV rays and prevents premature signs of aging.
